Aluminium Tubular Busbar
Seamless extruded aluminium tubes in EN AW-6101B, 6063, 6061 and 6082, OD 20 to 250 mm, in any length up to 15 m, with support clamps, couplers, expansion joints and end caps for rigid busbar in substations, railways and power stations.
Rigid aluminium bus for outdoor and indoor switchyards
CASK Power Systems supplies seamless extruded aluminium tubes and the matching fittings for rigid busbar systems. A tube carries high current with low losses, keeps its shape under short-circuit forces and spans long distances between post insulators, so the switchyard needs fewer supports and less steel.
The range
Metric tubes
Seamless extruded tubes from OD 20 to 250 mm in 31 sizes, each in four alloys, cut to any length up to 15 m.
IPS tubes
Tubes in nominal pipe sizes and schedules to ASTM B241 / B317, for projects designed to American practice.
Support clamps
Fixed clamps that hold the tube on the post insulator and sliding clamps that let it move with thermal expansion.
Couplers
Bolted straight couplers that join two tubes of the same size on site with the full current rating across the joint.
Expansion joints
Laminated aluminium straps that take up length changes between tube ends or between tube and equipment and isolate vibration.
End caps and terminals
End caps, T-connectors, tube-to-flat terminals and tube-to-conductor clamps, with corona-free shapes.
Alloys and standards
- EN AW-6101B T6: the standard busbar alloy, best conductivity with good strength
- EN AW-6063 T6: a good balance of current and strength
- EN AW-6061 and 6082 T6: long spans, high short-circuit forces and seismic areas
- Tubes: EN 573-3, EN 755-2, EN 755-7, ASTM B241 / B317
- Design and fittings: IEC 60865-1, IEEE 605, IEC 61284, insulator fixing to IEC 60273
Where it is used
Supplied, packed and documented for site
Ends are cut square and deburred, and every length is marked with its part number. Tubes are capped, wrapped and packed in closed wooden crates on skids, numbered by bay or by drawing, with an EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate, a packing list per crate and dimensional and conductivity test results. CASK Power Systems has supplied tubular busbar to several substation projects. The catalogue gives every size, its weight and part number: English (PDF) · العربية (PDF)
Frequently asked questions
Which alloy should I choose?
EN AW-6101B is the standard busbar alloy with the best conductivity. Choose 6061 or 6082 for very long spans, high short-circuit forces or seismic areas, and 6063 for a balance of both.
Can you cut the tubes to our lengths?
Yes. Any length up to 15 m, for example 10.5 m, cut to order and marked with its part number.
Do you give the current rating for our site?
Yes. Ratings for the site conditions and short-circuit checks to IEC 60865-1 are given with each offer.
Is the catalogue available in Arabic?
Yes. Download the English or Arabic catalogue at the top of this page.
